Adjusting the carburetor is an important and responsible part of the work on those. car maintenance. To complete this task, certain skills and qualifications are required, without which it is better to entrust this work to professionals.

Solex carburetor

All front-wheel drive VAZ models, including the VAZ - 21099, are equipped with Solex carburetors. The only difference is in the diameters of the nozzles, depending on the volume of the engine. The main carburetor setting is idle adjustment.

Carburetor adjustment is carried out only when the timing is in good condition and the ignition timing is correctly set

Before starting adjustment work, it is necessary to remove the air filter housing, disconnect the choke cable, idle solenoid valve wire and fuel hoses.

Instruments

To perform this work, you will need: wrenches for 8, 10, 13, a Phillips screwdriver, a gas analyzer.

Carburetor adjustment

At the beginning of the adjustment, the fuel level in the float chamber is checked and set. A ruler or vernier caliper is used to measure the distance from the fuel level to the plane of the carburetor connector, it should be 25.5 mm.

To adjust the fuel level, unscrew the five screws with a screwdriver and remove the carburetor cover. Turn the cover horizontally, floats up. The gap between the lower ends of the floats and the gasket should be the same and be 0.5 - 1 mm. If the gap is not the same or differs from the norm, adjust by bending the float levers.

Next, the starting device is adjusted. Before adjusting, it is necessary to check the condition of the diaphragm by unscrewing the four screws and removing the cover. The defective diaphragm must be replaced.

Close the air damper completely and push the trigger rod as far as it will go. The air damper should open slightly by the size of the starting gap - 3 mm. If different from the specified value, loosen the lock nut on the cover and adjust the clearance with the screw.

After replacing the carburetor cover, you will need to adjust the air damper drive. To do this, open the air damper completely and also completely recess the air damper drive knob in the vehicle interior.

Pull the drive rod out of the shell until it stops and tighten the screw on the damper drive lever. Pull out the drive handle in the passenger compartment, while the air damper should close completely. Sink the handle again - the flap should open completely.

If this does not happen, then it is necessary to loosen the bolt of fastening of the thrust shell and move the shell so that the air damper opens and closes completely.

Idle speed adjustment

By adjusting the idle speed, a minimum content of toxic substances in the exhaust gases is achieved. The adjustment is carried out on a warm engine with an air filter installed.

Since the idle speed is adjusted using a gas analyzer, it is better to carry out this work at the station of those. service

Turning the plastic screw for adjusting the amount of the mixture, set the idle speed to 750 - 800 revolutions. The gas analyzer measures the CO content in the exhaust gases. The rate is 1% with a tolerance of 0.3 percent.

If necessary, the CO value is adjusted with a quality screw closed with a disposable plastic plug. When screwing in the screw, the CO content decreases, when unscrewing it increases.

Next, the amount screw is restored to the previous idle speed and the CO content is checked again. The adjustment is repeated until the optimum result is achieved. After adjusting, press the gas pedal sharply - the engine should increase speed without failures, and after releasing the pedal it should not stall.
