Quite often, among the road users, you can find cars that do not have lighting devices configured. This becomes a problem not only for drivers of faulty vehicles (the effective visibility zone is too small), but also for drivers of oncoming traffic (they are "blinded" by the light of unadjusted headlights).
If in the places where the car is used there is no car service with special equipment, you can adjust the headlights yourself. This is done as follows:
- Check the condition of the vehicle's suspension parts. The tire pressures of the wheels, the condition of the suspension springs, the difference in tire sizes, the load distribution in the vehicle body are all factors that affect the direction of the light beam.
- Fill the car's tank to half its capacity, load the driver's seat with ballast weighing seventy-five kilograms.
- Check the condition of the lamps in the headlights. Lamps with darkened bulbs must be replaced immediately.
- Select a flat vertical wall for adjustment, in front of which there should be at least seven and a half meters of a horizontal section of the road.
- To correctly adjust the headlights, mark the screen on the wall. For this:
- drive up the car close to the wall;
- mark the center of the car on the wall;
- mark the center axes of each headlight;
- drive off the wall for seven and a half meters;
- on the wall with a horizontal line, connect the points of the centers of the headlights and draw vertical lines through them;
- parallel to the horizontal line drawn through the centers of the headlights, seven and a half centimeters lower, draw another line;
- turn on the "low beam";
- cover the left headlamp with cardboard and adjusting screws that move the reflector horizontally and vertically, adjust the right headlamp so that the upper border of the beam coincides with the lower line on the screen, and the top of the corner in the light spot coincides with the vertical line that passes through the center of the headlamp;
- cover the right headlight of the car with cardboard and adjust the left headlight in the same way as the right headlight of the car was adjusted.
If all the recommendations for tuning are followed, the headlights of the car will be set correctly and will not create problems on the way for either the owner of the car or other road users. On vehicles with separate low and high beam headlights, the headlights are adjusted individually for all four headlights.
