A loud, chaotic knock in the engine indicates the need to adjust the valves. Adjustment is reduced to setting the correct clearance between the rocker arms and the camshaft cams.

The valves of a VAZ 2105 car are adjusted on a cold engine. On hot it is impossible to correctly adjust the thermal gap. Before starting work, you must brake the car with the parking brake, remove the battery and put the gear lever in neutral.

Required tools

For work, you need wrenches for 8, 10, 13 and 17, a spanner for the ratchet nut, a special wide probe with a thickness of 0.15 mm. You also need to prepare a new valve cover gasket.

Sequence of execution

Remove the air filter cover, take out the filter and unscrew the four nuts securing the air filter housing to the carburetor. Remove the air filter housing and cover the carburetor with a clean, lint-free cloth.

Disconnect the throttle rods and carburetor choke cable. Remove the timing belt cover. You can also remove the spark plugs to help crank the engine.

Set the piston 1 of the cylinder to TDC. To do this, it is necessary to combine the mark located on the crankshaft pulley and the long mark on the front cover of the engine. In this case, the mark on the camshaft pulley and the outflow on the valve cover should also be combined. If these marks are not aligned, crank the crankshaft one more revolution.

On the 03 engine, a 4 cylinder is installed in the compression stroke.

Unscrew 8 nuts and remove the upper cylinder head cover. The cover gasket must be replaced, regardless of its condition, to avoid oil seepage.

When installing 1 cylinder at TDC, the clearance of 1 and 3 valves is checked and adjusted. To do this, insert the dipstick between the rocker arm and the camshaft cam, the dipstick should fit tightly, with slight pinching.

If the dipstick is loose or does not fit, release the locknut with a 17 key, holding the adjusting bolt with a 13 key. Then turn the adjusting bolt to set the required clearance.

After adjusting, rotate the crankshaft 180 degrees and adjust 5 and 2 valves. Crank the crankshaft another 180 degrees and adjust valves 8 and 6.

Turn the crankshaft 180 degrees again and set valve clearances 4 and 7.

The sequence for adjusting the valves 03 of the engine is shown in the table.

The correctness of the adjustment must be checked carefully several times. If the adjustment is done correctly, the knocking of the valves on a warm engine should completely disappear.
