Maserati is one of the well-known Italian companies, whose products were to everyone's taste. And the famous car "Maserati Kvatroporte", which has already survived six "reincarnations" and managed to gain popularity among motorists back in the distant sixties, has not lost its keen interest to this day.
Maserati Quatroporte are full-size sports sedans that captivate with their sophistication and immodest luxury. They begin their triumphant ascent to the automobile Olympus since 1963. To date, the sixth generation of the legendary "iron horse" is being produced. Translated from Italian "Quattroporte" means "four doors". It is a true symbiosis of aggressive chic and violent power. Maserati Quatroporte is not a vehicle, but a car for true connoisseurs of speed and comfort combined.
At the origins (first generation)
The car first appeared in public in 1963 at the Turin Motor Show. This legendary car, created under the leadership of Pietro Frua, was the first sedan of the Italian manufacturer. Models of the sixties could already boast of modern equipment for those times and maximum comfort.
They already had air conditioning, power windows, a V-shaped 260-horsepower engine under the hood and, of course, a powerful sports suspension. The sports car accelerated to the first hundred in just eight seconds and continued to accelerate to the speedometer mark of 225 kilometers per hour. Such indicators made it the fastest sedan of our time. In total, several hundred copies of the Quatroporte model were produced. Among the first happy owners were such famous people as Marcello Mastroianni, Peter Ustinov, Anthony Queen and Prince Rainier III of Monaco. By the way, it should be noted that the famous car from this series was also owned by the Soviet leader Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev.
There was no serial release (second generation)
In 1976 the new Maserati Quatroporte was released. This model had a more refined and sophisticated design than its predecessor. The suspension of this "baby" has become hydropneumatic. The new sedan, built on the chassis of the Citroen SM model, had a 190-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 engine under the hood and was significantly slower than its predecessor. The car barely reached two hundred kilometers per hour. And the buyer did not wait for the serial production of this model.
The sad fact was that this model did not receive a certificate for compliance with the EU standard, which practically cut off the oxygen. The car could no longer be sold in most of Europe. What was the reason for this? Maybe too many negative points converged at the same time at one point? A turbulent time, when fermentation began in the automotive industry, accompanied by numerous strikes. An unsuccessful merger by Citroen and Maserati, and then Peugeot. And the outbreak of the oil crisis of the seventies also served its purpose. All these factors put on the second serial production of the sports model "cross". However, they managed to release several copies of the sports car. The result was thirteen copies, several of which have survived to this day. Many collectors are chasing this model and are willing to shell out a pretty tidy sum for it.
Return to the classics (third generation)
Car production continued in 1976. His period lasted until 1990. After the release of the second generation, according to the developers of the sports car, was unsuccessful, it was decided to return to basics. The classic version of Maserati Quatroporte now seemed more reliable and financially justified. The car again becomes rear-wired with a V-shaped "eight" under the hood.
The designer who developed this model was the founder of the body shop Italdesign Giorgetto Giugiaro. This is understandable, because who else, if not an Italian, has the opportunity to design such a "swallow". The limited edition Royale, boosted to 299 hp, had a special charm. from. motor and even more luxurious interior. Only fifty-three such cars were produced.
Debut of new items (fourth generation)
April 1994 was marked by the release of the fourth model "Maserati Quatroporte". The design was entrusted to be developed by Marcello Gandini. Marcello's fantasy took him far. The look of the car turned out to be unusual and almost on the verge of a foul. There was a huge risk that such an original modification of the developer would alienate buyers from the sports car, but the risk, in the end, was justified. The originality of the car was appreciated. In addition to the fact that the exterior of the car was unusual, the interior decoration was also distinguished by chic. A truly win-win solution was to use wood and leather for the interior trim.
Everything turned out great. It should be noted that this model had excellent sound insulation. The characteristics of the sports car have changed significantly. The main features are reinforced doors, an airbag, 3-channel ABS and an automatic gas cut-off system designed in case of a traffic accident. From 1994 to 2000, 2,400 copies of the Maserati, the only sports sedan at that time, were produced.
Magnificent Decade (fifth generation)
This fruitful time fell on 2003-2013. Throughout these ten years, the fifth generation of Maserati Kvatroporte left the car assembly line. This model has undergone a serious external transformation and turned into a delightful beauty. All of the car's components looked great. The classic sedan was successfully combined with the tough aggression of a sports car. Under the hood of the sports car is a chic 32-valve V-shaped "eight" with a volume of 4.2 liters. The "Heart of the Iron Horse" produced "400 horses".
It was aggregated with a 6-band manual transmission, and accelerated to one hundred kilometers per hour in just 5.2 seconds. The maximum speed was two hundred and seventy-five kilometers per hour. The car has become a real idol and an example of what a premium sports four-door car should be. Of course, the creators of the autocar did not forget about elementary conveniences. In the salon, decorated with exceptionally expensive materials, they did not spare a place. All seats of the new "Quattroporte" were ventilated, heated and even massage, and a folding wooden table was provided for the rear passenger. The trunk of the Maserati was also impressive. It turned out to be 450 liters. The fifth generation has a circulation of 25,000 vehicles, far exceeding the Quattroporte of all previous generations combined. On the Russian market, the car was offered at a price of six million rubles.
New model (sixth generation)
The sixth generation of Maserati Quatroporte begins its report in 2013 and continues to this day. It differs from its famous predecessors with a 3-liter 410-horsepower engine, which allows the sports car to accelerate to one hundred kilometers per hour in 5.1 seconds. But this applies to the base motor. There is also a top version in the model range of this generation. Under the hood is a very powerful V8 twin-turbo unit, which produces five hundred and thirty horsepower. With these parameters, the car can accelerate to 307 kilometers per hour. Car enthusiasts also have a real opportunity to choose a sports car of any color. Here, taste preferences are fully satisfied.
