State registration and registration of a car is the final stage in the process of purchasing a vehicle. Without this procedure, the rights of the car owner have certain restrictions. So, until the license plates are assigned, he has no right to drive a car, as well as to sell it. To register and put a car on record, you need to contact the territorial department of the traffic police, after completing a number of specific actions.
How to register a car
The vehicle registration process involves the following actions:
- before the direct registration of the car, it is recommended to check the presence of previously issued and unpaid fines in the traffic police database in order to avoid possible troubles in the form of additional costs of money and time;
- payment of state fees for registration of a registration certificate, issuance of license plates and amendments to the TCP. The amount of duties must be specified on the main website of the traffic police or directly at the department, since their equivalent may change over time;
- prepare documents for registering a car;
- delivery of a car to the observation deck on the day of registration for its inspection;
- inspection of the vehicle subject to registration by a traffic police officer, and in the absence of claims and complaints, his signature of the application form.
After that, license plates are issued to the owner of the car, and the car is considered registered in the traffic police database.
Documents for car registration
To register a car, you need to prepare the following package of documents:
- a statement of the approved uniform form, valid throughout the territory of the Russian Federation, in one copy. If the applicant has a vehicle registration certificate in his hands, all data in the form are entered in full. If there is no PTS (technical vehicle passport), then some requests will have to be filled out directly at the traffic police department;
- identity document (passport);
- documentary confirmation of the ownership of the car in the form of a purchase and sale agreement, a payment document, or a document confirming the donation of a vehicle;
- original and a copy of the registration certificate for the car;
- registration of a car requires an insurance contract and the inclusion of a supporting policy in the package of documents;

- receipt order or customs cargo declaration confirming the official delivery of the car;
- three receipts confirming the payment of the state fee in the amount established by law.

What the traffic police inspector checks when registering a car
To ensure compliance with the rules for the safe operation of a vehicle established by the legislation of the Russian Federation, the traffic police inspector conducts an appropriate inspection of the car, during which he identifies:
- Compliance with the degree of toning of the front side and windshield, headlights, established standards;
- the coincidence or difference of the body number from the data specified in the documents;
- lack of gas equipment that is not documented;
- compliance of the steering mechanism with factory parameters;
- correspondence of the bumper, front and rear lights to the originals of similar car models.
If the vehicle meets the required technical parameters, then the inspection will take a minimum of time, after which the vehicle is registered. Otherwise, the identified violations must be eliminated with a second inspection.
