The armored 1928 Cadillac V-8 Town Sedan (341-A series), which allegedly belonged to Al Capone, was put up for sale at RM Auctions. This is not the first attempt to sell a vintage car.
The new auction will be held on July 28, 2012 in the state of Michigan, US city of Plymouth. The initial price will be announced at 300-500 thousand dollars.
The auction website notes that there is no documentary evidence of the car belonging to the famous Chicago gangster. However, the owners of "Cadillac" are sure that the car belonged to Al Capone, and provide verbal confirmation.
In 1958, the car was already sold at auction. The armored Cadillac was bought by another owner Harry Labrec from Patrick Moore. It was Patrick Moore who received the vintage car from a Chicago agent, who in turn received it from Al Capone.
"Cadillac" was exhibited in several automobile museums in Niagara Falls. Tourists and collectors from all over the world came to see the rare car.
Current owner John Oakwynn purchased the vehicle in 2006. Since that time, the first auction is scheduled.
Cadillac 341-A with an engine capacity of 5, 58 liters and a power of 90 horsepower develops a speed of up to 112 km per hour. The car has a three-speed gearbox. Weight without armor is 2.3 tons.
According to the Conceptcarz website, the highest price for the Cadillac 341-A series was obtained at auction in 2006. The owner paid 621.5 thousand dollars for the rare car.
