The battery, along with the vehicle, requires proper maintenance. It needs periodic care and inspection. It won't take long, but it will help to extend its lifespan.

Instructions

Step 1

Try to periodically wipe the battery with a dry cloth and inspect the outside for electrolyte leaks from inside the tank. Use a rag or small brush to clean the vents that are in covers or plugs.

Step 2

Check if the battery is firmly secured in place. Remember that any shaking and dangling of the battery will remove the active substance from the battery plates, which in turn leads to the risk of a short circuit. Therefore, carefully tighten the fasteners and place an ordinary rubber gasket under the bottom of the battery.

Step 3

Do not forget to check the reliability of fastening the wires to the battery. If they show signs of oxidation or rust, clean them thoroughly. After that, lubricate with petroleum jelly to prevent further propagation of oxidation.

Step 4

Check the electrolyte level regularly. It should be between the minimum and maximum marks that are applied to the battery case. Top up with distilled water if necessary to restore the electrolyte level. However, if it splashes out, then add not water, but directly the electrolyte, which should have the same density as the one inside.

Step 5

Monitor the condition of the electrical part of the car. Often a faulty alternator, starter motor or relay regulator contributes to the rapid failure of the battery. Adjust the density of the electrolyte to the required value periodically. Do this by charging the battery with a charger.

Step 6

Remember that the battery surface can only be washed when it is removed. Do this with a 10% ammonia solution. After the procedure, be sure to rinse the surface with cold water and dry thoroughly with a cloth.
