The purpose of a battery in a car is to start the engine and use it as an emergency source of energy. With proper maintenance, this appliance will give you a long service life.
Instructions
Step 1
If you have an injector installed, then in no case remove the battery with the engine running. This can cause the computer to malfunction, or even burn out. Inspect the battery regularly for tank leaks.
Step 2
Wipe the battery with a clean dry cloth to remove moisture from the surface and remove dirt and dust from the ventilation openings. Before traveling on a long journey, check if the battery is securely fixed in its place, because any displacement can lead to a short circuit inside the device.
Step 3
If the battery is serviceable, then regularly measure the electrolyte level and its density. Remember that this level should be between the maximum and minimum notches, which are applied to the translucent battery case. If necessary, top up with distilled water and put it on charge, to do this, remove it from the car and connect it to the charger. Remember that the approximate charging time is about 10 hours.
Step 4
Monitor your contacts carefully. If the terminals begin to oxidize, then clean them and lubricate them with a special agent to prevent this process in the future. Also pay attention to the condition of the generator and starter, because if these devices are malfunctioning, the battery also undergoes rapid wear.
Step 5
If the car stays in the garage for the winter, it is better to remove the battery from under the hood of the car and place it next to it. This will help to avoid damage, because many parts are affected by the leakage of electrolyte. Rinse the surface of the battery with a warm solution of caustic soda, then rinse it with cold water and wipe dry. If possible, treat the surface with compressed air.
