The need to paint a car arises very often. The reasons for this may be the results of an accident, rust on the body, the desire to sell or simply make it brighter. If you give a car to a car service, you will need to fork out a lot, and if you try to paint a car with your own hands, then you need to find out from what stages and subtleties a high-quality painting is formed.
Instructions
Step 1
To begin with, remember that it is not recommended to use materials for painting from different manufacturers. This can lead to disastrous results.
Step 2
Body treatment includes:
-primary surface preparation (removal of contaminated areas, washing);
-degreasing (removal of organic stains);
-abrasive grinding (removal of rust and old paint);
-creation of anti-corrosion coating;
-Application of enamel and varnish.
Step 3
The first two points are simple enough, but the third one can cause you some difficulties. To qualitatively prepare the surface for priming and painting, 5 dimensions of abrasive paper will be enough. During the processing sequence, the difference in paper “numbers” should not exceed 100 units. Otherwise, over time, material subsidence may occur and stripes will appear on the surface of the coating.
Step 4
In modern times, the painting process is quite facilitated thanks to three types of paint sprayers produced:
-high pressure. The disadvantage is the “carryover” of the material, that is, the loss of paint is about 50% on average;
-reduced pressure. These sprays make it possible to economically use paint due to the low pressure of the jet. But to work with them, a large-sized compressor is needed, and the quality of enamel application with such sprayers is low.
- medium pressure. The paint is used sparingly and ensures a good finish.
Step 5
There are two types of colorful coatings:
- single layer (simple);
-two-layer (with the effect of metallic, mother-of-pearl and others).
Before choosing a paint, you need to pay attention to the temperature at which it dries. Many types are now sold with hardeners.
Step 6
After the painting of the car is completed, you can proceed to drying, which is of 3 types:
-conventional - drying is carried out by heating, at a high temperature;
- ultraviolet - the main disadvantage: different degrees of drying of the paint of the upper and lower layers;
-infrared - provides high-quality and uniform drying.
Step 7
At the end of drying, the painted surface of the car must be polished, and then applied with acrylic lacquer and dried again. All kinds of defects (dust, drops of paint and moisture) must be eliminated by polishing with a special fine abrasive paste.
Step 8
If it is necessary to carry out cosmetic repairs to the car body, special aerosols can be used, thanks to which you can make a high-quality surface repair at all its stages.
