High summer temperatures and extreme heat in the car get on the nerves, encourage aggressive driving and increase reaction times, which in the worst case scenario can lead to serious accidents in street driving.
Already at a temperature of +25 degrees inside the passenger compartment, the number of driver errors increases. Concentration and visual acuity decrease with increasing temperature. Air conditioner comes to the rescue. However, proper handling of the air conditioner for optimal performance is critical.
Airing first, then cooling
Even if your vehicle is air conditioned, you should park in the shade whenever possible. Before leaving, you need to open the doors and windows for a while, thereby releasing the heated air from the car. After the start, it is advisable to turn on the air conditioner at full capacity. The first two minutes you can safely drive with the windows open. Then you have to close the windows for the cool air from the air conditioner to take effect.
The air conditioner dries the air in the car
The air conditioner is useful not only at high temperatures. It is also applicable for misted windows: you need to direct the air flow to the windshield, set the ventilation to "convection" and select the highest fan and heating level. After a short time, the recirculation mode must be turned off and the fan must be switched to a medium level. The air conditioner will dry the air and the windows will become transparent again.
Use conditioner weekly
In order for the air conditioner to serve as long as possible, it must be turned on at least once a week for 10 minutes. This requirement is true for any season. Thus, the refrigerant circulates and prevents the seals from drying out.
