Nickel-plated trims look great on any car color, but most dramatically on a black car. As for bikers, this category of drivers is considered bad manners when a motorcycle has surfaces that are covered differently than the rear-view mirror.

Necessary

  • - plastic tube up to 30 mm in diameter,
  • - bristles from a paint brush,
  • - 12 V battery.

Instructions

Step 1

The procedure for coating the surfaces of metal products with nickel is technologically complex and requires the presence of an electroplating bath. But, as the people say, the need for invention is cunning. And our craftsmen have developed a method of nickel plating without using a bath.

Step 2

The key role of this process is assigned to a special brush, which is made from a dielectric tube with a diameter of 25-30 mm (Plexiglas is considered the ideal material). A bristle is inserted into one end, which is wrapped with a lead wire, electrolyte is poured into the inner cavity, and the other end is closed with a plug with a hole through which the contents of a high-tech brush are further replenished.

Step 3

Then the part to be coated is cleaned of corrosion and other contaminants and treated with a solution containing, per liter of water:

- 150 g of caustic soda, - 50 g of chemically pure caustic soda, - 5 g of silicate glue.

After processing, the part is connected with a wire to the positive terminal of the battery.

Step 4

An electrolyte prepared from: nickel sulfate - 70 g, sodium sulfate - 40 g, boric acid - 20 g and sodium chlorine - 5 g is poured into the brush cavity. All components are alternately dissolved in one liter of distilled water. The winding of the brush is connected to the negative terminal of the battery and the process of coating the product with nickel begins.

Step 5

Moving the brush over the surface of the product, it is covered with a layer of nickel falling out of the electrolyte. To achieve high-quality processing of the workpiece with a brush, it is necessary to carry out in the same place about 30-40 times. At the end of this process, the part is washed under running water and dried.
