Scratches on the body of a car always spoil the mood of its owner, especially if the car is new or rented. However, in order to remove a scratch, it is not at all necessary to go to a car service. You can repair minor body damage yourself. It does not require special knowledge and specific skills.

Necessary

  • - polishes of several types;
  • - soft tissue.

Instructions

Step 1

First, determine the depth and size of the scratch. In the event that there is extensive damage to the paintwork, the body part will have to be completely repainted. It will not work to tint on your own so that the repair site is invisible. Tinting is best done in a car service.

Step 2

If a simple scratch is visible on the paintwork, determine the depth. To do this, clean the scratch from dirt with a soft cloth. If it turns out to be deep (to the ground layer), get some paint from the car dealership to get rid of it. Naturally, the color of the paint should match the color of the scratched body as much as possible. Before touching up, isolate the body to be painted from other surfaces of the car. If the scratch is not very long, tint it with a toothpick - this is more convenient.

Step 3

If the scratch is shallow and only affects layers of varnish or paint, it is more effective to use a specialized polish. Depending on the depth of the defect, purchase a fine, medium or coarse abrasive polish for fine, medium or large scratches, respectively. Do not strive for cheapness: buy a fairly expensive polish and with a margin. Experience shows that it can be useful many times in the future.

Step 4

Before polishing the body, the repair area should be thoroughly cleaned, washed and dried. Carry out polishing according to the instructions on the container with polish. During polishing, take care of good lighting of the workplace. When polishing, try to smooth out the sharp edges of the scratch. Remove a deep scratch in two steps: first with a coarse-abrasive polish, and then with a fine-abrasive polish. Coarse-abrasive polish requires careful handling - carelessness can lead to wiping of the paintwork to the ground layer.

Step 5

Polishes are most often sold in a pasty state, but are found in the form of liquids or aerosols. Apply the polishing paste to a dry, soft cloth and rub the paste into the defect using strokes along the scratch. Try to pinpoint the exact moment when the edges of the scratch will be smoothed out. After that, remove the remnants of the used polish and continue processing the body with a finer abrasive. It should be rubbed in in a circular motion until the scratch is invisible.

Step 6

Finally, add additional protection and the desired shine to the defective area with a wax or polymer protective polish.
