In recent years, large automobile concerns have started to produce more and more models equipped with an automatic transmission. Such a box is much more convenient. However, very often the automatic transmission knob breaks. In this case, it is necessary to remove the old one and install a new one in its place. Also, some people change the automatic transmission knob for aesthetic reasons.
Necessary
- - a manual for your car;
- - spanners;
- - screwdrivers.
Instructions
Step 1
Place your vehicle on a level surface. Be sure to take care of a strong light source. This is necessary so that you can clearly see the automatic transmission handle when removing it.
Step 2
Move the automatic transmission lever to the parking position and apply the parking brake. Stop engine and remove key from ignition.
Step 3
Study your vehicle manual carefully. It should detail the scheme for replacing the lever handle. If it is not there, then visit the forum of the owners of your model. Surely you are not the first one who set himself such a goal.
Step 4
On some models, the handle is detached by simply pulling it up. To do this, grab the handle and gently pull up, while trying not to jerk sharply so as not to break the plastic protrusions. The new handle is installed back by simply pressing it until it clicks.
Step 5
Examine the bottom of the handle. If there are screws on it, then they should be carefully unscrewed. In doing so, be sure to remember the location of each bolt, as they may differ in thickness and length. If the bolts are screwed in incorrectly, then the sockets in the handle body can be damaged.
Step 6
Carefully try to separate both parts of the handle from each other. If this does not work, then they are connected to each other using plastic latches. Find them on the body of the handle and carefully unfold them. After that, the two parts will be free. Take them off. Be careful not to lose the spring from the button.
Step 7
Install the new automatic transmission knob in the reverse order. Check its performance.
Step 8
On some car models, dismantling and replacement of the automatic transmission handle is possible only after partial disassembly of the transmission panel. To do this, you need to find the fasteners for the casing and the front part.
Step 9
Remove the mounting bolts. Remove the bezel of the automatic transmission. Under it, find the mechanism that drives the gearbox lever. Remove the bolts connecting the bolts and the mechanism. Carefully pull the lever out of the grooves. Install a new one in its place.
