A toll road is a certain section of the road, for which a certain amount is charged. In most cases, toll sections are bridges, tunnels or expressways.

There are currently three toll payment systems. With an open system, you can drive through the toll section by paying a certain amount at an assembly point that blocks the main traffic. With the closed type, payment is made at the entrance to the paid site. The electronic toll system assumes automatic collection at the entrance or at a strategic section of the main motorway.

To travel on a toll road with an open toll system, you can stop the car in different parts of the motorway where there are collection points.

For travel in a closed system, payment will have to be made at the entrance. In some cases, a ticket is issued at the entrance with a specified amount of payment, which must be paid at the ticket office upon departure, or half the amount is charged upon entry and the remainder upon departure.

You can drive on a toll road with an electronic system by paying for a toll in an electronic machine. The second option is to install an electronic transponder in the car.

The most modern toll roads are the use of all three types of tolls, for example, in the UK on the Seversky and Second Seversky bridges. From Wales to England, the movement is free, payment is made only on the way back.

Payments can be made in cash, prepaid or credit cards, wire transfers.

In the Russian Federation, the only road leading to a destination cannot be toll. On newly built tracks, small fees may apply. But at the same time, the motorist has the right to drive through a paid section or choose an alternative option - a road that runs in parallel.

In addition, tolls may apply on reconstructed sections of the old motorway. In this regard, many motorists are protesting, since all old highways have already been funded from the annual transport tax payments.
