Instructions

Step 1

Almost all modern cars are equipped with warning lights to inform the driver when the engine oil level is low. But you should not wait for it to light up, because this can happen quite late, when, due to lack of lubrication, the engine starts to crumble or, as they say, knocks. Moreover, such a nuisance, as a rule, occurs on the way, far from civilization, where the possibility of acquiring the necessary brand of motor oil is reduced to zero. Checking the oil level is literally a matter of a minute, so it is better not to tempt fate and carry it out whenever possible, ideally at every refueling.

Step 2

The first, the most common option for checking the oil level is made using a special dipstick, which is included in the equipment of each car. Before checking, it is necessary to warm up the engine, that is, drive the car for at least 10 kilometers, and then park it on the surface without a slope, that is, the car must be absolutely level. But don't go straight to the engine. It is necessary to allow time for the oil to drain from the engine parts into the bath, 2-3 minutes will be quite enough for this. Anyone who does not know where the oil dipstick is located in his car should read the instructions for driving his car or simply take a close look at the engine compartment. Typically, the dipstick is located near the hole through which oil is poured into the motor.

Step 3

Now you can start measuring directly. To do this, you need to pull out the dipstick, wipe it with a napkin or a cloth specially designed for this purpose, return the dipstick to its place, carefully pull it out again and carefully examine its lower part. You will notice two dashes on it - Min and Max. If the oil mark is between these two values, the oil level can be considered sufficient.

Step 4

Some cars are equipped with an on-board computer that can independently measure the oil level in the engine. Preparation for automatic measurement is no different from the first method. It is also necessary to warm up the engine in the same way, having driven about 10 km, park the car on a flat surface, turn off the engine, wait a couple of minutes. How the oil level check system is activated in each particular car is written in the instructions for its operation. And everything else will be a matter of technology, the driver will only need to press a button and read the computer readings.
