The gearbox is one of the most inaccessible units in cars of the "classic line" of VAZ for daily, visual control over its current technical condition. Therefore, it is not always possible to timely detect the formed transmission oil leak, for example, from under the oil seal of the secondary shaft ("shank") of the gearbox.

Instructions
Step 1
To check the lubrication level in the gear changes of cars of the "classic line" of the Volga Automobile Plant, the car must be placed on a viewing hole, overpass or lift.
Step 2
Then, from the bottom, on the left side in the direction of the vehicle, on the side surface of the gearbox housing, almost in the center, it is necessary to find and unscrew the check plug of the lubricant level of the specified unit. By the way, it also closes the filling hole.
Step 3
After the plug is completely unscrewed, a small amount of gear lubricant may leak from the inspection hole. This phenomenon is considered quite normal.
Step 4
In cases where the lubricant does not flow out of the gearbox, then a finger is pushed into the hole, and there, by touch, the oil level is determined. If the grease is at the same level with the hole, or slightly lower, then this fact indicates a normal gearbox refueling. But placing it too low indicates that the gearbox needs to be refilled with gear oil.
