Replacing a wing with a VAZ-2107 is an operation that requires locksmith skills and spot welding. If these conditions are met, the front or rear fender can be replaced without going to a repair shop.
Most often, in minor accidents, the front fenders suffer, therefore they are more expensive than the rear ones, although in terms of the volume of metal used and the complexity of manufacturing, both of these elements are approximately equivalent. The processes of replacing the front and rear wings of the VAZ-2107 are similar, but still there are some nuances.
Front fender replacement
Remove the bumper, front door, hood and antenna (if equipped) from the vehicle before proceeding with the removal of the damaged fender. Next, from the front end of the car, dismantle the headlight, side turn signal, and trim. Visually identify the spot welds - they are in the front part where the headlight was attached, on the drain gutter near the engine compartment and in the place where the door is hung. Take a drill and drill out the contact welding points. Now you need a well-sharpened chisel. They need to cut off the joints with the front, bottom of the sidewall and its A-pillar. After that, you can remove the wing and, using a grinder and the same chisel, knock down the remnants of the old damaged body element.
At the next stage, sand the attachment points with an emery cloth (you can use a grinder with a Velcro circle). After that, you can hang the hood, door and put a new wing; it must be adjusted so that there are no gaps. Next, secure the new body element, for example with a clamp, and weld it temporarily at first. Remove the clamp, make sure all clearances are observed and weld the new wing overhaul.
Rear fender replacement
First, remove the trim in the luggage compartment, and in the cabin - the rear seats. For safety reasons, it is recommended to remove the gas tank (even if you are changing the left fender). Take a grinder and cut off the wing, stepping back from the factory seam by about 1 cm. Use powerful pliers to twist the remaining metal into a tape and remove it. Inspect the inner arch and repair (boil it) if necessary, then prime it. Next, attach the wing, secure it with clamps and align it so that there are equal gaps between it and the trunk lid, rear door. If everything is ok, then you can weld (better by spot welding).
After the wing is in place, grind the welding seams with a grinder with a grinding wheel. Then they need to be primed and treated with automotive sealant. Treat the installed element from the inside with any anti-corrosion compound. After that, it is advisable to completely cover the wing with a primer (this also applies to the front wing), because factory processing leaves much to be desired.
