Instructions

Step 1

If it is possible to remove the fender from the vehicle, do so. Dismantle all parts of the wing beforehand: linings, lights, etc. If the wing is non-removable, mark the damaged areas for a subsequent cut. Chalk markings will then make it easier to fit the repair part. Cut out the defective part with a metal saw, scissors, or a gas torch. Make sure the edges of the metal are not stretched out at all times. Stretching the metal will subsequently complicate the fit and reshape the wing.

Step 2

Use straightening hammers, supports and anvils to straighten bumps and dents on the wing. At the same time, pierce the edges of the cutout to give them the correct geometric shape. Cut a template out of a piece of cardboard that is slightly larger than the wing cutout. Attach the template to the inside of the wing and mark the outline of the cutout on it. Leaving 1 s from the cutout outline, cut the template. The allowance is necessary to ensure the evenness of the joint.

Step 3

Prepare a sheet of steel with the same metal thickness and steel grade as the wing. Mark the repair part using the template, cut it out and pierce the flange at the allowance. Install the repair part into the wing from the inside and pre-weld it. Pre-weld at several points with a gas torch or electric welding machine. Then correct the installed part. After that, permanently weld the repair part using gas or resistance welding. To prevent deformation, lay wet asbestos at a distance of 2-3 cm from the weld.

Step 4

Before painting the repaired surface, degrease it and sand the metal to a shine with an emery mesh. Clean the surface not only at the place of repair, but also adjacent areas 2-3 cm wide. Carry out a rough putty and re-treat the surface with an abrasive mesh. After that, apply a finishing putty, sand with fine-grained sandpaper, dry and apply three primer coats of paint. After drying and vyshkuriv soil layers, paint the wing with enamel overlapping the transition zone by 2-3 cm. Apply varnish in one and a half layers, completely covering the transition zone. Polish the painted surface.

Step 5

Before installing the repaired wing, clean the contact area and cover with a protective layer. After this layer has dried, apply sealant, install the wing, screw in the screws and bolts without tightening. After adjusting the door and bonnet clearances, finally tighten the fasteners.
