If you want your car to go faster and use fuel more efficiently, replacing the fuel filter will help. You can do it yourself, which will be much cheaper than visiting a service center.
Necessary
- - Keys set;
- - Jack;
- - Crosshead screwdriver;
- - Pliers;
- - Flat screwdriver;
- - Protective glasses;
- - Gloves.
Instructions
Step 1
Wear safety glasses and gloves. Prepare your tools. It is advisable to use products of proven quality, because it depends on how long your car will work.
Step 2
Raise the car. This can be done with a jack and support all wheels. Do not rely on just one support, as this can be very dangerous.
Step 3
Locate the fuel filter. It can vary depending on the design of the engine. It is worth starting the search near the fuel tank or under the body, since the probability of finding a part there is quite high. You can also read the user manual or call the service center to find the answer to this question.
Step 4
Remove the protective coating that is applied to the fuel filter. Most filters are plastic coated to prevent mechanical damage. It can be easily removed with a key or screwdriver.
Step 5
Remove the fuel lines attached to the fuel filter. There are several options for connecting these hoses to the pump. For example, these can be brackets or clamps. Use a screwdriver or wrench, whichever you need to remove.
Step 6
Cover the hole in the fuel line with a pencil or similar, and place a canister underneath. Disconnect the fuel filter from the mechanism, remembering how it was located. Most likely, it should be directed from the gas tank to the engine. The most important thing is to remember the direction of the membranes on the filter.
Step 7
Install a new fuel filter. Rest assured that it is oriented just like the previous one. Reinstall all parts. Make sure that nothing is left over.
