In the repair manual for SkodaOctavia, replacement of spark plugs is provided after a run of 60,000 km. But in domestic conditions, this limit can be significantly reduced. Emergency situations also arise along the way, when an urgent replacement of spark plugs may be required.
Necessary
A special head for candles for 16, which has a rubber washer for fixing the candle inside the head, as well as an extension (at least 15 cm long) with a knob; hexagon 5; flat screwdriver; large cross screwdriver
Instructions
Step 1
This is done on SkodaOctavia as follows:
Remove the plastic engine cover by disengaging the four fastening latches with a Phillips screwdriver. To do this, rotate them 90 degrees to either side. Locate the four massive (plastic) ignition coil housings under the cladding. On this engine model, each spark plug has its own coil, each of which is secured with two Allen screws.
Attention! Remove the cover vertically upwards without turning it over to avoid losing one of the latches.
Step 2
Using a flat screwdriver, lift the steel clips (there are four of them, located on the coil bodies) of the connectors of each coil up to the stop and disconnect the connectors. Unscrew the bolts holding the ignition coils to the cylinder head housing with a hexagon and carefully pull the coils up. A long coil body with a rubber tip is used for transmission to the high voltage plug. The spark plugs themselves are located in the wells under the coils.
Step 3
Blow out the spark plug wells with compressed air to prevent dirt and foreign objects from entering the cylinders when removing the spark plugs. Unscrew the candles using a special head with a nozzle, and remove them (the head has a rubber retainer that keeps the candle from falling out of it when removing).
Step 4
Install new plugs using the same head, for which insert a new plug into the head with slight effort (holding the plug by the threaded part). The plug should fit into the rubber washer and lock into it. The washer prevents the candle from falling out of the head when installed in a well. Screw in the plug by rotating the head by hand through the extension. The plug must be screwed in without effort so as not to damage the threads in the cylinder head housing. Pull out the spark plug completely using the tightening wrench. For the tightening torque of the spark plug, refer to the Workshop Manual and also on the spark plug packaging.
Perform final assembly in reverse order. Make sure the ignition coils are seated on the spark plugs before bolting them in place.
