Traces of corrosion on the body of a car are a problem no less serious than technical problems. It must be solved immediately, without waiting for the rust to spread and it will be possible to get rid of it only by cardinal methods.
The modern market offers several ways to protect the car body from corrosion - active, transformative and passive. Experts choose the active option using special formulations, for example, the "Movil" product. According to the statistics obtained in the course of surveys of professionals in the field of body repair and sellers of specialized stores, it is "Movil" that is the most demanded and effective means for protecting body elements from rust.
What is "Movil"
"Movil" is an anti-corrosion agent capable of stopping the spread of rust and protecting parts from damage. It was created back in the 70s of the last century by scientists from Moscow and Vilnius, at a time when the assembly of the Italian FIAT model was started on the basis of the domestic VAZ.
The Italians necessarily treated the car body parts with anti-corrosion agents, but there were no such compositions in the arsenal of the Soviet plant.
Initially, the product was purchased in Sweden, but the VAZ management considered such costs inappropriate, and set the task for its specialists to develop an analogue, but with a cheaper and simpler composition. This is how the Movil appeared in the arsenal of the Soviet automotive industry.
The domestic development was made on the same basis as the tool from Sweden called Tectyl-390, but the original formula was modified, and very successfully. "Movil" surpassed the original in many respects, it began to be used not only in the USSR, but also in many European countries.
The composition of the "Movil" product
"Movil" is a film-forming agent related to inhibitors based on petroleum products or oily products. After applying "Movil" to the rust-affected area of the body part, the penetrant inhibitors penetrate into the micropores of iron oxide, transform them into a non-corrosive form, and a strong film of resins forms on the surface of the area.
This effect is achieved thanks to the well-thought-out composition of the product. It includes:
- engine oil and drying oil,
- kerosene and solvent (white spirit),
- inhibitors and zinc,
- rust converters.
Converting agents are not included in all formulations. When buying Movil, you should give preference to those options, on the packaging of which there is a mark "converter" or "with a converter".
Most of Movil's manufacturers use tannins as a converter - hydrolyzable or condensed substances capable of retaining and binding other components of the composition. After contact with iron oxide, tannins are transformed into water-resistant tannins, which greatly increases the effectiveness of the Movil anti-corrosion agent.
Forms of Movil and leading manufacturers
On the Russian market, this anticorrosive agent is available in three forms of release at once - in the form of an aerosol or paste, in a liquid form, sold in canisters, as a rule, 3 liters.
The easiest way to work with Movil is in the form of an aerosol, but it costs much more than its analogues. For a bottle with a volume of 250 to 300 ml, you will have to pay from 500 to 700 rubles. You do not need to have special skills or knowledge to treat a rusty area with an aerosol. The only rule is that you need to remove traces of corrosion from the part and always keep the bottle strictly vertical when working.
Least of all is the liquid "Movil", which is sold in cans. The container is equipped with a special attachment that facilitates the work. 3 liters of funds will cost no more than 450 rubles, depending on the pricing policy of the outlet and the manufacturer's starting price.
"Movil" in the form of a paste is sold in cans made of plastic or tin, with a volume of 850 mg. It will cost from 200 to 300 rubles. In order to work with the paste, it will be necessary to dilute it in the proportions recommended by the manufacturer with a solvent, as a rule, this is white spirit.
In their reviews of the "Movil" tool, both professionals and motorists note the funds of such domestic manufacturers as "Eltrans", "Agat-Auto", "Astrokhim" and "Development of PKF".
Scope of the anti-corrosion agent "Movil"
"Movil" is a kind of preservative that prevents metal parts from coming into contact with moisture and other substances that cause corrosion. Any body parts can be treated with this agent, but it should be carefully avoided getting on plastic and rubber elements. The scope of "Movil" is wide enough. The product can be applied to
- body elements or their individual sections,
- welds after repair,
- arches and hidden cavities in hard-to-reach places,
- side members and door pockets,
- elements of the hood and trunk,
- "Covers" of headlights, polics and other details.
Experts recommend processing the entire body, even if only one of its parts has been replaced, spot welding repairs have been performed.
It is strongly not recommended to treat body parts from inside the passenger compartment with the "Movil" agent. The fact is that it has a specific chemical smell that lasts for a long time. Those who cannot tolerate such aromas or those who are allergic to the substances that make up Movil will simply not be able to use the car.
Method of using "Movil"
For any form of production of an anti-corrosion agent, the manufacturer attaches instructions for its use. It is important to understand that if you just apply the composition to the area of the body where rust has formed, it will not disappear anywhere. It is necessary to carry out the preparatory work correctly:
- clean the car from dirt and road reagents, dry it thoroughly,
- clean the area with traces of rust - with sandpaper, a grinder, a grinder or a brush,
- rinse the surface again, preferably with a stream of running water, dry it,
- apply an anti-corrosion compound following the enclosed instructions for its use,
- if necessary, apply one or more layers of Movil.
By the same principle, it is possible to process the entire car body twice a year, having previously cleaned and dried the areas where traces of rust have appeared. Such prevention of the body will protect its parts from the negative effects of atmospheric phenomena (rain, sun rays), reagents that are scattered on the roads in winter.
Safety measures when working with Movil
Movil is a corrosion inhibitor based on chemicals, most of which are hazardous to human health. The need to work indoors requires you to follow certain precautions:
- the space should be well ventilated,
- there should be no open flames or hot stoves nearby,
- the level of the floor under the machine must be covered, as the product is difficult to remove,
- hands and face must be protected with special clothing - gloves, mask, glasses,
- it is necessary to work with Movil in a high-quality respirator,
- if the product gets on an open area of the skin, it is immediately removed, and if it gets into the eyes or on mucous membranes, consult a doctor.
You can use the car after it has been treated with the Movil anti-corrosion agent no earlier than three days later. The point is not only that the treated areas must dry out, but also in the composition - in "Movil" contains volatile chemicals and compounds that are dangerous for the respiratory system of the human body.
