Bicycle owners know how inconvenient this transport is for transportation: it takes up a lot of space, is unstable, and some parts are fragile. But removing one wheel from the bike and using the packing materials wisely can save space and make it easier to transport your bike.

Step 1
Before transporting your bike, you need to pack it well, otherwise you can scratch the frame, break switches, damage the pedals. You can pack your bike unassembled, but this takes up a lot of space. Although it will not be possible to significantly reduce the dimensions of a bicycle if it is not folding, since the dimensions are mainly located on the frame. The easiest way is to remove one wheel and screw it to the side of the frame using thick tape or ropes. In this case, the steering wheel must be deployed parallel to the frame, so it will save space in width. Even more space can be saved if two wheels, pedals and a fork are removed, all of this together with the frame is folded very compactly into a box or wrapped in several layers of tape.
Step 2
The most fragile thing in a bike - the derailleur - does not have to be removed and packaged separately, then it will take a lot of time to put it back. It is enough to protect it with cardboard or something hard, but it is better to pack the whole bike in a cardboard box or attach large sheets of cardboard on at least two sides.
Step 3
Then you can send the bike in this form or make the packaging more convenient to carry. To do this, make handles from strong special adhesive tape that can withstand heavy loads, or make handles from dense fabric. You can also find a large, sturdy cloth bag to hold your bike when folded. Bike shops sell special padded bike covers that fit most models easily when the wheels are removed.
Step 4
A bicycle disassembled and packed in this way will easily fit into the trunk of a car, provided that there is nothing else in it. If the rear seat is loose, you can try putting your bike there - most cars have enough room there. But often the rear seats are occupied, and there is another load in the trunk, in which case you need to transport the bike on the roof of the car, firmly attaching it to the upper rack. Unassembled bike can be transported on the roof of the car using special mounts that securely fix the wheels.
Step 5
Bicycles are allowed to be transported in train carriages folded and packed if they are placed on special luggage racks. A bicycle cannot fit under a seat in most modern carriages, but there is enough space under the ceiling in the upper bunk in second-class carriages. Do not take seats in the compartment or luxury carriages, there is less space for luggage.
Step 6
Large sports equipment is allowed on board for an additional fee. You need to pick up your bike not from a common conveyor belt, but from the oversized baggage department.
