The engine can rightfully be called the heart of the car: the life of the vehicle as a whole depends on the performance of this unit. That is why car owners check engine performance from time to time.
Necessary
- - engine;
- - candles;
- - oil;
- - tools.
Instructions
Step 1
There are several ways to test the health of a car engine. First, check the oil filler cap (it should be clean). Then look into the inside of the neck (no dirt is allowed: all parts must be clean or yellowish).
Step 2
Pay attention if the oil turns black or deposits appear on the lid: all this indicates that the oil has been used for a long period of time and needs to be replaced urgently. If such oil is not replaced, it will begin to disintegrate into its constituent elements, which threatens the failure of the hydraulic compensator and other parts. However, too pure oil is also a negative indicator.
Step 3
Inspect the engine on an overpass: there is a greater chance to notice all engine malfunctions, if any, and eliminate them in time.
Step 4
Pay attention to the spark plugs. For the purpose of prevention, selectively remove a few candles and take a closer look at what color they are. If the spark plugs have carbon deposits or other visible damage, replace them with new ones.
Step 5
Listen to the sound when the engine is running. Extraneous noise is unacceptable!
Step 6
Pay attention to the color of the smoke from the exhaust pipe while the engine is running. Black smoke is a sign that the carburetor is not properly adjusted. A gray color indicates that oil is entering the combustion chamber.
Step 7
If, during the inspection, a hose hanging down is found, this indicates that the ventilation system has not coped with the exhaust gases: they break out into the crankcase.
Step 8
And here's what is also important: if at subzero temperatures after an overnight stay, the car starts from half a turn, then the engine is in excellent shape.
