Shock absorbers work when driving on uneven roads. They soften all shock to the suspension, making the ride comfortable and safe. Unfortunately, shock absorbers are not permanent, they need to be changed from time to time.

Necessary

  • - jack;
  • - open end wrench for 8;
  • - open end wrench for 17;
  • - spanner keys for 19;
  • - rubber bushings for shock absorbers;
  • - a set of shock absorbers.

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare your vehicle for repairs. Open the hood, as the shock absorbers will start replacing from the front. You do not need to jack the car, but it is more convenient to work in a hole. In extreme cases, a low overpass is required. However, a small hole on the inner side of the wheel, one bayonet deep with a shovel, will help you. The fact is that the shock absorber is very difficult to remove if the car is standing on a level surface. It will hit the ground and most of the shock will remain above the bottom of the arm.

Step 2

Hold the shock absorber rod with an 8 wrench, and unscrew the fastening nut with a 17 wrench. Remove washers and rubber rings. When installing a new shock absorber, these washers and rings must be replaced. Now it remains to unscrew the two nuts that secure the shock absorber bracket to the lower arm.

Step 3

Remove the shock absorber from the lever. Please note that there is no bracket on the new shock absorber. Therefore, the bracket will have to be removed and installed on a new shock absorber. Install the new shock absorber in reverse order, do not forget to put on the rubber rings, washers, bump stop and boot.

Step 4

Replace the second side in the same way. First, tighten all threaded connections, and after the final installation, tighten the nuts to the required torque. When installing the shock absorber, you need to get into the hole in the glass. To do this, you need to fully extend the stem, you can do this with your fingers, pushing them between the coils of the spring.

Step 5

Apply a penetrating grease to the threaded connections. In the meantime, rust and dirt are turning off, prepare a set of rear shock absorbers. Reinstall the rubber grommets immediately. It is best to replace nuts and bolts, because the old ones have already become unusable, because they are in close proximity to the road. And this suggests that all the water and dirt from the road gets on the bolts and nuts.

Step 6

Take two spanners 19. You need to unscrew the lower nuts, for this we put one wrench on the nut and rest against the body or wheel (depending on where it goes). You can even attach an extension cord to the second key, it will not be superfluous. A pipe section of a suitable diameter can be used as an extension. The main thing is to rip off the nut if it has not been unscrewed for a long time. If even tricky devices do not help, you will have to warm up the nuts. And don't forget to remove the two bushings, which you will later install with a new shock absorber.

Step 7

Remove the nut that secures the shock absorber rod to the body. It is self-locking, at the edge of the thread it has a plastic sleeve that prevents the nut from unscrewing. If it does not twist and you have to warm it, then install a new one afterwards. Installing a new shock absorber is performed in the reverse order. And the replacement of the second shock absorber is done in the same way. If there is no inspection hole, you can raise the side to be repaired on a jack.
