It has long been known that a car today is not a luxury, but a means of transportation. Therefore, many people want to learn how to drive and get a license. When learning to drive, reversing is one of the most difficult and dangerous moments. But many trainees have difficulties even when engaging reverse gear.
Instructions
Step 1
Be sure to fasten your seat belts before driving. Even the most seemingly insignificant manipulations associated with driving a car can lead to life-threatening and health-threatening consequences.
Step 2
Start the car and warm up the engine for a few minutes. Look in the rear and side view mirrors to avoid hitting a pedestrian or any obstacle. Most modern cars are equipped with special parking radars that help when reversing or parking the car at night, as well as in confined spaces.
Step 3
If you have an automatic transmission, depress the brake pedal, press the safety button on the gear lever and slide it to the “R” mark. After that, you will see on the dashboard that the car is in reverse gear and is ready to move back. Release the brake pedal gently and the vehicle will reverse.
Step 4
If you have a car with a manual transmission, there are various options here. Usually there is a picture of the vehicle speed engaging on the gear lever. The different gearing patterns depend on the gearbox installed in your vehicle. It can be four, five or six steps.
Step 5
After learning the trajectory of engaging reverse gear, depress the clutch and brake pedal at the same time. Make sure again that you will not interfere with other road users or damage your vehicle when reversing. Drown the gear lever and move along the path indicated in the gearshift picture. Then slowly release the brake and clutch pedals. The vehicle will start to move in reverse. Enjoy your trip and don't forget to look in your rearview mirrors.
