There are times when the windshield of a car has to be changed. Since the 60s of the last century, glass has been glued into cars using polyurethane glue. This adhesive creates an airtight sealing layer between the glass and the body, which is in no way inferior to rubber gaskets.
Instructions
Step 1
To glue the glass in a car, you need to purchase a high-quality adhesive system (one- or two-component). It is better to take systems from well-known manufacturers. You cannot save in this case. It is also necessary to check the expiration date of the system and the integrity of its packaging.
Step 2
Remove the damaged glass. First remove the wipers, air intake panel, moldings, etc. from the vehicle. In the passenger compartment, remove the front pillars trim, rear-view mirror, visors. Cover all surfaces adjacent to the opening with tape. The glass is cut using a string, as well as various knives (electric or pneumatic).
Step 3
Cut off the old glue from the body frame, leaving a layer of no more than 1-1.5 mm. Thoroughly clean the opening from accumulated dirt and dust. Treat the frame with the degreaser supplied with the purchased adhesive system.
Step 4
Thoroughly wash the glass with a glass cleaner, apply an activator and a primer to its ceramic strip. Apply primer to the cleaned body frame. The primer is applied in a thin layer in one pass. It is an adhesive that enhances the adhesion of the adhesive to the substrate. Allow the primer to dry for the time indicated by the manufacturer.
Step 5
Attach the suction cups of the handles to the back of the glass where it is more convenient for you to take it.
Through the tip of the gun, apply an even layer of glue around the perimeter of the glass and immediately install the glass in place in the opening. Move it slightly left and right. The glue dries quickly, so the result of the work will depend on your quickness.
Step 6
Secure the glass with adhesive tape, immediately install the moldings, then one by one all the previously removed elements. Do not close the car doors until the glue is completely dry, so as not to create air currents that can lead to deformation of the adhesive layer, and, consequently, to a violation of its sealing. It is extremely important to maintain the polymerization time of the glue, which is also specified by the manufacturer on the packaging.
