Very often, due to serious damage to the rear window, motorists need to replace it with a new one by gluing. This is a rather complicated and responsible procedure, which, unfortunately, not every beginner can handle. However, do not be upset, because if you wish, you can master this process, and in the future, replacing glass in a car will no longer cause you any difficulties.
Necessary
- - braided copper string;
- - awl;
- - gloves;
- - a special wax pencil;
- - soil;
- - sealant;
- - a syringe for applying sealant;
- - vacuum suction cups;
- - a soft cloth soaked in alcohol
Instructions
Step 1
Remove the damaged glass from the vehicle. Ask someone to help you, as you cannot do it yourself. Remove the rear seat backrest and cushion, C-pillar trim and shelves. Disconnect the contact wires from the heater and antenna. Remove the molding, if difficult, just cut it off with a knife.
Step 2
Take a braided copper string, you will need it to cut the glue on which the glass is attached. Carefully use an awl to make a small hole in one of the corner pieces of the glass planting. Start the string and, wearing gloves, begin to alternately pull it with an assistant, as if cutting the glue layer. Clean the opening from any dirt. Then proceed with gluing the new rear window.
Step 3
Install the lower braces and clips of the lower molding. Center the glass and, using a special wax pencil, make small marks in four places on the body and glass. Apply the primer evenly around the glass perimeter with a thin layer 25-30 mm wide, making sure that no dust, water and abrasive materials get into this area. Let the soil dry for 15 minutes.
Step 4
On the inner surface of the glass at the edge, glue a special rubber strip, on which a sealant will be applied during installation. Install a molding around the edges of the glass. Apply primer to the remaining sealant on the edges of the body. After 10 minutes, start installing the glass. To do this, fill a special syringe with sealant so that no air pockets form. Then apply the sealant evenly over the entire edge of the glass.
Step 5
Attach the suction cups to the glass and carefully lower it into the opening, aligning the previously applied marks. Press lightly on the glass so that it sits well on the sealant, the excess of which is removed with a soft cloth dampened with alcohol. Do not close the doors while the sealant dries.
Step 6
Check the tightness with a gentle jet of cold water. If you notice leaks, dry the area to be tested and reapply the sealant to it. At the end of the procedure, let the car stand for 4 hours and install all the elements previously removed from it.
