Bicycles are extremely popular today. Like any transport, they can fail. If you decide to replace the bearings, you can do the job yourself. The replacement procedure consists of several stages.

Instructions

Step 1

Bearings are the most vulnerable part of the bike. The vehicle has several bearing assemblies. They are found in the front fork and in the bottom bracket, in the pedals and in the wheels.

Step 2

Most often, the bearings in the carriage, which ensure the rotation of the pedals, fail. This bearing assembly is located at the bottom of the frame.

Step 3

Let's say you need to get to the bottom bracket bearings. Turn the bike over and remove both cranks. To do this, unscrew the nuts on the wedges and remove them. Note that all the work must be done slowly so as not to confuse the nuts and bicycle parts.

Step 4

Sometimes it is very difficult to unscrew the nuts. In this case, fit a wooden strip to the threaded part and tap with a hammer. Please note that the work should be carried out effortlessly so as not to damage the bike components.

Step 5

Then remove the anthers. You must clean them thoroughly. Contamination and exposure to water quickly destroy the bearings in the carriage.

Step 6

Install special keys in the carriage grooves and turn out the left cup. Pull it out together with the bearing. Pull it carefully out of the frame slot. After that, replace and carry out all operations in reverse order.

Step 7

After completing the assembly process, adjust the bearing assembly. The connecting rods must rotate freely. There should be no axial displacement.

Step 8

If you decide to replace the bearings in the front fork yourself, remove the bike wheel. Then carefully unscrew the head of the steering wheel holding bolt. Remove it by unscrewing the lock nut.

Step 9

There is a lamppost or washer under the locknut. Remove it, then unscrew the top cup. You will have access to the cage, which contains the bearing.

Step 10

On some models of bicycles, the balls in the cups are without a separator. Because of this, you must be sure to hold the fork by the bit when unscrewing the locknut. This will prevent the balls from scattering.

Step 11

After removing the top cup, tilt the bike to one side. This way you can gently pour the balls. Then remove the plug from the head tube.

After disassembling the fork, rinse the cups and balls with kerosene. Wipe them dry.

Step 12

Buy industrial petroleum jelly and grease the cups with it. If you see that at least one balloon has burst or rusted, replace the entire kit. The thing is that the difference in the diameters of the balls also leads to their rapid wear.

Step 13

When assembling, carefully place the balls into the cup track. Then insert the fork rod into the frame tube and press it against the lower cup with the taper of the crown.
