A snowmobile is an excellent form of transport in winter conditions. It is used both as entertainment and in everyday life somewhere in remote villages, to which there are no access roads. Today, many people simply cannot afford a snowmobile. But it can also be made at home from a simple bicycle.
Instructions
Step 1
As a rule, the main idea of such a rework is to replace the front wheel with a ski. This is done in order to reduce friction to a minimum in the place of its adhesion to the road. Instead of a rear wheel, a base is usually placed, which rests on skis, or a special tracked drive.
Step 2
You can make such a base from two longitudinal pipes, connecting them in front with the steering column, and behind a cross member from a thinner pipe. This operation is performed by welding.
Step 3
It is also necessary to reinforce the frame at the joints. This is done using blanks from a sheet of steel.
Step 4
Next, weld a thin tube cross member to the bottom of the steering shaft, to which the front ski hinge will be hinged. The hinge is made from a steel sheet with a thickness of at least three millimeters by bending and giving it a U-shape.
Step 5
Then, pivot the hitch to the cross member that was previously attached to the bottom of the steering shaft.
Step 6
Take a steel stud, two nuts with washers, and a bushing that fits inside the cross member to make the swivel fasteners.
Step 7
The design of the brake should be a scraper type that resembles a door hinge. Its fixed element is attached to the back of the ski with screws and nuts, and the movable element is on four steel rods. When braking, the rods enter the holes drilled in the ski and dampen the speed as they go deeper into the snow. The brake is controlled by a cable.
Step 8
Now you need to make the skis. Take four pieces of plywood, five millimeters thick. Glue them together well.
Step 9
Also skis can be made of duralumin. But here you need to take into account one nuance. Dural must be welded with argon-arc welding, so as not to reduce the strength of the material.
Step 10
After you have made the ski, attach it to the steering shaft and secure it well with a steel spring.
Step 11
There is little left to do. Paint your snowmobile the color you want and go.
