For many, a snowmobile is not just a vehicle for extreme riding, but also a necessary means of transportation in a harsh winter. To date, the purchase of a snowmobile will cost a lot of investment and not all businessmen can afford to have such a vehicle, let alone mere mortals. Do not be upset, making a snowmobile can be done easily and simply from a simple motorcycle with your own hands.

Take as a basis a regular motorcycle "Izh" or any other that is serviceable and can run. Make a motorized towing vehicle (tracked unit).
Make an additional frame in order to connect the block with the ski, the body and, of course, the driver's seat. Such a frame can be assembled from two longitudinal pipes with a diameter of 35x2 mm, connecting them to each other in the front with a steering column by welding, and at the back with a cross member, making it from a pipe thinner, 30x2 mm in diameter.
Reinforce the frame joints with sheet steel gussets that are at least 2 mm thick.
Connect the frame to the track assembly at several points where the bearing assemblies are located. The best way to do this is to use plain bearings and bushings made of bronze or PTFE, which you can grind yourself.
Wrap the bearing with a damp asbestos cloth. This is necessary so that the part does not overheat during welding. Fasten the bearing in the block body itself at three points using the same welding.
Saw off the steering column from the old bike and weld it on the gussets to the side members. Weld the cross member to the bottom of the steering shaft. As a cross member, you can use a regular pipe with a diameter of 22x3 mm.
Attach the front ski hitch to the welded cross member pivotally. The hinge can be made independently by creating a U-shaped support, which can be bent from an ordinary steel sheet with a thickness of at least 3 mm. Use an M8 threaded steel stud, two matching nuts with washers, and a plastic bushing that fits inside the cross member as the swivel fastener.
Use any standard motorcycle or moped handlebars for your snowmobile. Place the throttle grip, the clutch engagement grip, the scraper brake actuator, the engine decompressor actuator, the gear selector and the lights on and off switches on the handlebars of your snowmobile. In this case, all levers and switches must be precisely connected according to the motorcycle assembly scheme.
Make a ski from pieces of plywood glued together with a thickness of 5-6 mm. As a result, the thickness of the ski should be no more than 20 mm. In addition, you can use a wooden or plastic mini-ski bought in any sports store as a ski, as well as an ordinary ski, cutting it to the desired size.
Attach the finished ski to the steering shaft and secure it with a steel spring. Instead of a spring, you can use elastic thick rubber.
Secure the seat with a 22x2.5mm diameter cross member and four steel sheet supports about 3mm. The seat itself can be used from an old motorcycle or any small seat.
Use a simple plastic canister or an old moped or motorcycle tank as your fuel tank and attach it properly to the top of the frame. At the same time, do not forget that your design must have a sump with a fuel cock and a rubber hose must be connected to the carburetor.
Paint the frame of the snowmobile in the desired color, having previously cleaned of old paint and primed the surface several times.
Saturate the ski with hot linseed oil and paint with enamel.
The snowmobile is now ready to go.
