After a major overhaul of the engine, all attachments are mounted on it, including the starter, which it is advisable to check for operability before installation. Because the crankshaft of a repaired engine is much harder to turn over than before repair. And it is possible that the starter may not cope with the task assigned to it to start the engine.

It is necessary

  • - locksmith vice,
  • - accumulator battery,
  • - two pieces of electrical cable, 2 m each, with terminals at the ends.

Instructions

Step 1

At the first stage, the starter itself is checked, which is securely clamped in a vice. Provided that the workbench is made of metal, and the cable coming from the negative terminal of the battery is connected to it in any convenient place.

Step 2

Then voltage is applied from the "+" terminal of the storage battery to the free starter terminal located in the rear cover of the solenoid relay. Then, using a small piece of wire, the connection terminal of the retractor relay is connected to the power cable connected to the "plus" of the battery. At this point, the retraction mechanism should be activated, which moves the starter pinion to the operating position. At the same time, the solenoid of the retractor relay closes the contacts for turning on the starter, the rotor of which begins to rotate.

Step 3

It should be noted that the starter is switched on at lightning speed. And in order to follow the operation of the mechanism for bringing the "bendix" to the position at which it engages with the flywheel, it is necessary to repeat the above actions several times, during which the movement of the drive gear and the moment when the starter is turned on are monitored. And it should turn on only after the "bendix" is fully extended.

Step 4

If the starter rotor starts to rotate before the moment when the pinion gear reaches the end point of its working position or does not turn on at all, then the starter undergoes refurbishment.
