Getting in the car, setting the route and driving is the dream of some motorists, which is becoming a reality. The General Director of the RoboSiVi company announced the development of an "autopilot" that will replace the driver in the car.
Russian specialists have developed a device that can replace a driver in a car. It will independently indicate the route, move the car on its way, go around all obstacles, stop, for example, in front of a pedestrian crossing and take the passenger to the designated place.
The general director of the company and the developer of the project, Sergey Maltsev, notes that two elements work in the system: the GLONASS navigation complex and the complex, which is created on the basis of technical vision. The first is responsible for the route, and the second is for road safety.
The car is equipped with a large number of sensors to detect the presence of obstacles on the road. And the software package of this device is even able to calculate the trajectory and direction of moving obstacles, such as pedestrians and cars.
Currently, the product of this company is being tested on a model of a full-fledged car, 8 times smaller than its older brother. Subject to the availability of appropriate funding, it is planned to carry out large-scale tests on a conventional car in the near future.
The company already has customers who are ready to apply this technology to their vehicles. These are organizations working in quarries. It is quite possible to equip such a transport with such a system, because in the quarry the route of movement is clearly defined.
When such cars will hit the market is still unknown. But it is planned to use cars without drivers in production by 2015.
Now some automakers practice equipping cars with active safety systems. For example, many Volvo and Mercedes are equipped with a system that allows you not to crash into a car in front, or even save the life of a pedestrian by quickly stopping the car in front of such an unexpected obstacle. Automatic parking systems have long been practiced even on budget cars.
