An odometer is a device designed to measure the distance traveled by a car. Together with the speedometer, they represent a single electronic mechanism, which requires special equipment to correct its operation.

Step 1
An odometer correction is required in several cases: when assessing the condition of the car, when monitoring the work of hired drivers and after major repairs to the units and components of the car. Most drivers prefer to make odometer adjustments in a car workshop. The rest perform this operation on their own using special devices for correcting odometers.
Step 2
It should be noted right away that this is not so easy. So, for example, in most Japanese and Korean cars, the mileage information is located in the chip, which is responsible for the odometer memory. In such conditions, a simple mechanical twisting of the "extra" kilometers will obviously not be enough, since it will be necessary to correct other points as well. The general meaning of the odometer correction process is reduced to the need to change the data in its memory microcircuit. To do this, you need to thoroughly know the structure of the dashboard, since it will have to be dismantled.
Step 3
After dismantling, find the microcircuit itself and carefully unsolder it, put it on the programmer and read the memory dump - data stored in the computer's memory as a binary file. This allows you to save information in case of possible failure of further recording of new, already changed data.
Step 4
After completing the firmware, solder the modified microcircuit to its original place. You just have to assemble the dashboard and put it back where it was before. For an experienced technician, the entire operation will take no more than 15 minutes, provided that access to the microcircuit is relatively easy. If the odometer is corrected through special points on the board, then it will take much more time - up to one hour.
