Instructions

Step 1

Switch off the ignition and stop the engine. Wait until the motor has completely cooled down, and only then proceed to work. After that, open the hood and disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the storage battery. Then remove the top engine cover. Disconnect the lugs from the spark plugs to which the high-voltage wires are attached.

Step 2

After that, remove the holder, which is necessary for securing the wires, and remove the accumulated small debris and dirt from the niches. A regular brush or compressed air is suitable for this. Then carefully remove the spark plugs. Be careful not to tilt the spark plugs while removing them, which could damage the threads. Clean and inspect them thoroughly. If you notice the slightest cracks on the insulator or damage to the threads and electrodes, then immediately replace the spark plugs with new ones.

Step 3

Take a round dipstick and use it to measure the distance between the electrodes of the spark plugs. For low-power motors, this gap should be of the order of 0.9-1.1 mm. On engines with a volume of 1, 4 liters - this distance should be equal to 1 mm. If the value you measured differs from the permissible values, then adjust the gap to the desired value.

Step 4

Then screw in the plugs and reassemble in reverse order. Remember that the optimal torque for tightening the spark plugs is 20-30 N * m. Make sure that the installed spark plugs fully correspond to the size of the engine that is installed on your car.

Step 5

Remember that by the external condition of the spark plugs, you can judge the degree of engine wear. For example, if the working end of the spark plug does not have deposits, this indicates that a lean mixture is entering the combustion chamber. And if the end is covered with a layer of dark deposits, then on the contrary, the mixture is overly enriched.
