Every car has a hood with an opening element - a lock, which, unfortunately, can sometimes jam at the most inopportune time. Therefore, car drivers need to know how to open the hood in an emergency.
Instructions
Step 1
Park the vehicle so that you have access to the engine compartment from the front bumper. To do this, drive the car onto an overpass, lift it on an electric lift in the service, or put it on a pit.
Step 2
Press several times with your hands on the place of the hood, under which the lock is located. Movements should be sharp and strong. The spring of the lock is often the cause of the breakage. Have someone sit behind the wheel and pull hard on the hood release lever. Press down on the edges of the hood at the same time. From this, the spring can straighten and pop out, releasing the lock.
Step 3
Find out what may be preventing the hood from opening freely. On some cars, the lock is in the middle and there are tabs on the edges. Pull gently on each side of the hood to see which side the opening mechanism is jammed on.
Step 4
Get under the car. Find the hood lock and try to open it from the inside. To do this, use a long wooden stick or screwdriver. You need to get to the tab of the lock and bend it. Ask someone to help you, otherwise, while you get out from under the car, the hood may close again.
Step 5
Remove the radiator grille by unscrewing the bolts, or break it out if they are not accessible from the outside. Then, feel the hood lock with your hand and open it. If you are unable to do this, unscrew the bolts that hold the lock and remove it.
Step 6
A jammed hood can result in a break in the drive cable. In this case, find the place of the cliff. To do this, disassemble the part of the car torpedo in the place where the hood opening lever is located. A torn lock drive cable cannot be repaired, so replace it with a new one.
Step 7
All attempts to open the hood, if the lock is jammed, should be made only beforehand by turning off the car engine.
