The crankshaft is one of the most expensive and most important parts of the engine, which determines its reliability. For less wear on parts and lower noise, the specified part is usually lightened. How exactly do you do this?
Instructions
Step 1
Inspect the crankshaft carefully. Check journal wear, runout, bearing holes and flywheel bolts.
Step 2
Prepare the crankshaft for grinding. Correct it when it is curved. This will help to avoid further problems while working in the engine. Install the shaft into the electric furnace first. Set the temperature to 160-200˚С and keep the shaft there for 30 minutes - soak it. At the same time, place the point of greatest bend of the uneven shaft under the press. Then lay the crankshaft with the main journals on the press prisms and straighten the three middle journals.
Step 3
Grind the crankshaft to the correct size. The main parts of the sanding will be the cheeks and counterweights. Secure the shaft to the chucks of the grinder with a neck and flange. Take ceramic bond black silicon carbide wheels with a grain size of 46 and a hardness of CM2 or M2. Please note that the speed of the shaft when grinding should be 12-15 m / min. Cool the shaft periodically with 2-3% soda ash solution. Prepare or roughly grind the crankshaft.
Step 4
Rebore the holes on the main journals with a 14 mm drill after preliminary grinding. Then thoroughly blow out the oil passages with compressed air.
Step 5
Sand it clean. Grind more thoroughly and gently. At the end of grinding work, rinse the inner and outer surfaces of the crankshaft under pressure in a special installation.
Step 6
Start finishing the shaft - polish it. To do this, fix the shaft on a special grinder. Please note that overstitching, i.e. grinding can lead to poor engine idle performance, and under high loads there is a possibility that the crankshaft will burst. Therefore, be careful when performing these steps.
