The thermostat in the engine cooling system plays a prominent role. It allows the engine to quickly warm up to operating temperature, and then prevents it from overheating by opening a large circle. Therefore, the thermostat has two types of malfunctions - when it does not open and when it does not close. In any of these cases, it must be replaced.
It is necessary
- - capacity 5 l;
- - key for 13;
- - hose 2 m;
- - Allen key 4.
Instructions
Step 1
Drain the coolant from the engine cooling radiator. To do this, take a clean container in a volume of 5 liters, a 13 spanner or open-end wrench, a 2 m hose, a screwdriver and a 4 hexagon wrench. Unscrew the plug at the bottom on the left side, this is a plastic lamb, so it can be unscrewed by hand. Dip the hose into the container and quickly bring the other end to the drain hole. Wait until the liquid from the radiator stops flowing, then remove the hose and replace the plug.
Step 2
Drain fluid from engine block. To do this, take a 13 key and unscrew the plug located on the bottom right of it next to the starter and, as in the previous paragraph, drain the coolant from the block into a container. After replacing the thermostat, it can be used again.
Step 3
Remove the thermostat cover. It is located on the engine block on the right above the gearbox, unscrew the three bolts with a 4-key hex wrench, loosen the two clamps on the pipes that are connected to it, disconnect it from the pipes. The cover contains a thermostat element that must be replaced.
Step 4
Remove the defective part of the thermostat from the cover, to do this, slightly push it, and then turn it counterclockwise or clockwise, and it will spring out of the mount under the influence of a spring. Reassemble the thermostat, after replacing it with a new element, in the reverse order. Also replace the O-ring between the housing and the thermostat cover, it usually comes with a new part. Lubricate the joint with sealant in addition, before reinstalling the cover. Also coat the ends of the pipes, which are connected to the cover and then secure with clamps. Fill the cooling system with coolant and start the engine.
Step 5
Check the correct operation of the thermostat. To do this, warm up the engine to a temperature of 85-90 degrees (the moment the large circuit is opened) and touch the pipe. It should be hot.
