The thermostat plays a key role in the cooling system. It acts as a switch, directing the liquid to the desired circle. The temperature in the system depends on which circuit the antifreeze or antifreeze will circulate.
Necessary
- - capacity;
- - ratchet;
- - head 8;
- - flat and Phillips screwdrivers;
- - silicone sealant.
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the car for the repair of the cooling system, just first let the fluids in the system cool down. Next, you need to remove the dust cover, which is fastened with self-tapping screws with a turnkey head for 8. The fluid is drained in two stages. First, you need to unscrew the cap at the bottom of the radiator. Unscrew the expansion tank cap slightly to obtain the optimum head. After that, you need to drain the coolant from the engine block. Adjust the pressure in the same way. This will reduce fluid loss.
Step 2
Inspect the pipes for cracks or damage, assess flexibility. In case of defects, it is best to replace worn rubber parts. The thermostat in the VAZ-2114 is located directly above the gearbox. One of its inputs is connected to the engine block, the second with a metal pipe going to the stove, the third with a radiator, and the fourth with an expansion tank. The pipes are fastened with metal clamps.
Step 3
Loosen all four clamps to remove the pipes from the thermostat. First, remove the ones on the bottom (going to the reservoir and radiator). Then remove the pipes connected to the stove and the engine block. That's it, dismantling is complete, now you need to prepare a new thermostat for installation. Wipe all the pipes with a rag so that no traces of coolant remain. Look at the condition of the inside of the tubes, if it is bad, then it is better to replace them.
Step 4
Install new clamps on each branch pipe. The old ones have already served their purpose, they will not be able to reliably compress the rubber. Now take a silicone sealant that can withstand temperatures above 130 degrees. Apply it in a thin layer to all four thermostat outlets. This will eliminate the possibility of a leak in the future. Please note that it will take some time after assembly for the sealant to cure. First install the upper thermostat outlet to the connection to the engine block. Tighten the clamp lightly to avoid squeezing the sealant out and in.
Step 5
Next, put the pipe from the stove on the thermostat. Tighten the clamp without using force. And lastly, install the pipes from the radiator and reservoir. Carry out the final tightening of all clamps after 15-20 minutes, when the sealant is harder. And it is best to pour liquid into the cooling system after another couple of hours. During this time, the sealant will take its working form, will be similar in properties to rubber. Do not forget to carry out the procedure for getting rid of air congestion in the system, warming up the engine to a temperature of 90 degrees.
