Brake pads wear out unevenly: the front ones are faster than the rear ones, so the first replacement will be needed no later than 20-25 thousand kilometers. To correctly install new parts, you need to adhere to a simple algorithm of actions, which will allow you to perform the operation quickly and without much effort.
It is necessary to change brake pads on a VAZ 2114 if their thickness is less than 1.5 mm. Visually (through a special viewing window) this can be seen when reinstalling the front wheels: for example, when changing winter tires to summer tires or vice versa. It is also worth paying attention to the condition of the front wheel pads when installing the spare tire. Another sign that a replacement is needed is a squeak when you press the brake pedal. The front brake elements wear out faster than the rear ones - the replacement period varies between 10 and 25 thousand kilometers, depending on the quality of the parts, the intensity of use and the driving style. The rear ones serve 50 thousand km or more.
Replacing the front pads
Put the car on the handbrake and speed, loosen the wheel nuts, hang it on a jack: put a stop for safety. Then unscrew the nuts completely and remove the wheel. Now you need to turn the steering wheel in the direction to which you are going to change the pads - it will be more convenient to work this way. Next, find on the side of the caliper, which is closer to the engine, the bolt locked with a flat washer: bend it, and unscrew the bolt with a key to "13". Pay attention to the amount of brake fluid in the reservoir: if its amount reaches the maximum level, remove the fluid up to about half with a syringe.
Using a flat installation, carefully push the pistons of the brake cylinder, pushing them in, then remove the fasteners from the brake hose, move the caliper and pull out the old pads. Take new parts, insert into the grooves of the disc. Replace the caliper and reassemble the system in reverse order.
Change of rear pads
Remove the car from the parking brake and also put on the jack, stops and remove the wheel. Next, you need to remove the brake drum, for which you need to unscrew the guide bushings. If the drum does not come out, then try turning it about 30 degrees and screwing the guide bushings one by one.
After removing the drum, first pull out the flat springs from the right brake shoe using pliers with narrow noses. Then, use a heavy-duty flat screwdriver to remove the upper horizontal spring. Then you can take the free block to the side and remove the lower horizontal spring from it. To remove the right block, remove the spacer plate and pull the cotter pin out of the parking brake rod. Now you can remove the lever, remove the springs, remove the shoe. Installation of new parts is carried out in the reverse order.
