Replacing the front pads is one of the easiest repairs to your car that you can do yourself. In addition to the fact that the replacement of the pads must be done when they are worn down to a thickness of 1, 5 mm and below, or a squeak appears during braking, check the condition of the pads periodically in order to detect in time such signs of malfunction as delamination of the linings from the base of the pads, their charring and chipping.
Necessary
- - syringe or rubber bulb;
- - standard wheel wrench or knob with a head on "17" or a key-cross on "17";
- - jack or lift;
- - support stand;
- - pliers;
- - spanner key for "13";
- - key to "17";
- - sliding pliers;
- - slotted screwdriver with a wide blade;
- - mounting blade;
- - brake fluid.
Instructions
Step 1
In general, the brakes of the front wheels are made almost identical on all VAZ cars. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir. If it is at the “MAX” mark, then before installing new pads, pump out some of the fluid from the reservoir with a syringe or rubber bulb, so that when the piston is pushed into the working cylinder, the brake fluid does not leak out from under the reservoir cap.
Step 2
Loosen the front wheel bolts using a standard wheel wrench or a knob with a “17” head, or a cross wrench at “17”. Raise the vehicle with a jack or lift. Unscrew the wheel bolts and remove it. Secure the vehicle to the support leg.
Step 3
Using the pliers, bend the edges of the locking plate of the bolt of the slave cylinder to the lower guide pin of the caliper. Using a spanner wrench "13" unscrew the bolt, holding the guide pin with a wrench "17", and pull out the bolt with a lock plate.
Step 4
Raise the caliper and slide the brake pads out of the guide. Clean dirt and corrosion from the pads in the caliper and guide.
Step 5
Now you need to move the piston as much as possible inside the working cylinder. Take the pliers and use them to push the piston into the cylinder. Alternatively, use this method: reinstall the inner pad and lower the caliper, insert a wide-blade screwdriver or a mounting blade into the caliper hole and, resting it on the brake disc, slide the caliper and press the piston into the slave cylinder.
Step 6
Insert new brake pads into the shoe guide. Perform further operations in reverse order. Replace the brake pads on the other front wheel in the same way.
Step 7
After replacing the pads, press the brake pedal several times. This will set the required clearance between the pads and brake discs. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir. If necessary, bring it up to normal.
