Sports cars are produced in fairly small series, sometimes they are even created in single copies. Despite this, they deservedly occupy the top lines in the ranking of the most prestigious cars. Even Formula 1 race cars can envy their technical characteristics.
It is impossible to unequivocally answer the question of which car is the fastest in the world, since it is necessary to take into account a number of additional parameters - for example, the type of propulsion system, whether the car is mass-produced. An important parameter is the acceleration speed to one hundred kilometers per hour, while a situation is possible when one car accelerates to this speed much faster than the other, but the second has a higher maximum speed.
The absolute speed record for the car was achieved back in 1997 by the Englishman Andy Green on the Thrust SSC jet car, following the results of two races it is equal to 1226, 522 km / h. This speed was achieved thanks to the installation of two turbojet engines with a total capacity of 110,000 horsepower. The maximum speed for a wheel-drive vehicle is 737.395 km / h. The record was set in 2001 in a Turbinator car.
Among production vehicles with wheel drive, the fastest as of mid-2012 is the SSC Ultimate Aero 6.3 V-8. Its maximum speed is 443 km / h, while it accelerates to one hundred kilometers in just 2.78 seconds. The car is powered by a Chevrolet Supercharged V8 turbocharged petrol engine with a capacity of 1350 horsepower. In terms of cost, this car is one of the three most expensive cars in the world, it is about one million dollars.
The main competitor of SSC Ultimate Aero has been the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 8.0 W16 for many years, the car is capable of reaching speeds of up to 431 km / h, and accelerates to 100 km / h in just 2.5 seconds. The cost of this model, depending on the configuration, ranges from one and a half to two million dollars.
The third line of the rating of the fastest cars in the world is held by the Venom GT supercar. Thanks to the forced LS9 V engine with a volume of 6, 2 liters and a capacity of 725 horsepower, the car reaches a speed of 422 km / h, accelerates to one hundred kilometers in 2.4 seconds. The cost of the sports car is 960 thousand dollars.
There is also competition among electric vehicles. The top speed of 495 km / h was developed by the Buckeye Bullet, but this car is not a serial car, it has a layout that is different from the classic one and is intended solely for setting records. Among the cars of the usual scheme, the fastest is the Quimera AEGT supercar, equipped with a lithium-polymer battery, in 2011 it reached a speed of 300 km / h. The total power of the three electric motors installed on it is 700 horsepower. While this car is a prototype, but the company that produces it plans to launch the sports car in a series.
