Auto tuning companies make limited slip differentials. Installing these devices in an axle or gearbox makes it much easier to control the machine when driving through mud.

It is necessary

  • - A set of keys;
  • - jacks;
  • - car sealant.

Instructions

Step 1

Park the car in the garage, place shoes under the front wheels and use 2 jacks to lift the car by the rear axle so that you can remove the wheels. Drain the oil from the rear axle. To do this, unscrew the drain plug and substitute a suitable plastic canister with a funnel. Usually, the rear axle of a jeep contains 3-5 liters of oil.

Step 2

Install the rim of the driven gear of the reducer on the housing of the new differential. Install new bearings on it. The inner bearing races can be slid on with light blows from a small sledgehammer or with a hydraulic press.

Step 3

Remove the yoke and adjust the clearance between the final drive pair by adjusting the thickness of the adjusting washer, then adjust the clearance in the tapered differential bearings in exactly the same way. The correct thickness of the washer allows it to be inserted into place with little effort. After completing the adjustment, put the yoke back and tighten the mounting bolts. Check the clearances again. If everything is normal, you can start installing the gearbox back.

Step 4

Wait about 10 hours after installing the gearbox on the sealant and fill the axle with gear oil.
