A gas pump is needed to create fuel pressure in the power system. It also pumps gasoline from the tank to the carburetor or fuel rail, depending on the type of injection system.
Instructions
Step 1
Pay attention to which injection system is used on your car. If it is carbureted, then the gas pump is removed quite simply. You can consider this process using the example of domestic cars VAZ-2108. The fuel pump is driven by a rod that rests on the camshaft. On the camshaft there is a kind of cam that pushes the stem. Making translational movements, the rod squeezes out the membrane, a vacuum is created in the pump chamber and under its action the fuel is sucked in.
Step 2
Loosen the clamps that secure the fuel hoses to the fuel pump, then remove the hoses themselves. Using a 13 wrench, unscrew the two nuts that secure the pump to the engine housing. Now all that remains is to pull the fuel pump and remove it from the studs. Between the engine and the pump, there are still gaskets and a plastic guide in which the stem is located. As for the injection injection system, everything is a little more complicated in it, since the pump is located in the fuel tank.
Step 3
Remove the electric fuel pump fuse. Now turn on the ignition and start the engine. Let it work until it stalls. This will relieve the pressure in the system. Now lift the rear seat, under it you will find a window through which you can dismantle the pump. Just before starting, try to de-energize the car, because you are going to work in the immediate vicinity of flammable gasoline.
Step 4
Disconnect the block with wires, then you need to disconnect the two fuel pipes. Different car brands have different tube and pump connections. Some use the clamps that have become familiar to everyone, while others use plastic clips that tightly squeeze the fuel pipes. Having got rid of the wires and hose, you must proceed directly to disconnect the pump from the fuel tank.
Step 5
Unscrew the nuts securing the pump casing to the tank. Some cars use this method of fastening. For example, on dozens of domestic products, the pump is attached to the tank with studs and nuts. And on some foreign cars, special retaining rings are used, which have the same diameter as the pump housing. They screw into the tank, pressing the pump firmly against it. Now all that remains is to carefully remove the pump with the float outward. You can change the unit or repair it.
