During the operation of cars, situations arise when the engine does not start with the starter. After turning the key in the ignition lock, a characteristic sound is heard from under the hood, confirming the activation of the starter retractor relay, but the bendix drive gear engaged with the engine flywheel does not turn the engine crankshaft.

Instructions

Step 1

A bit of theory. The starter retractor relay is equipped with an electromagnetic coil, a solenoid and a powerful contact group consisting of two bolts and a washer made of copper. After turning on the ignition switch and supplying current to the coil winding, the solenoid moves, while pushing forward the drive clutch, the gear of which engages with the flywheel crown. At the same time, the solenoid closes the contacts located in the relay cover, through which electricity is supplied to the starter windings.

Step 2

Thanks to the constructive solution, as soon as the "Bendix" fully engages with the flywheel, the starter is switched on, and it begins to rotate the engine crankshaft, which leads to the start of the power plant.

Step 3

But in those cases when the surface of the contacts is covered with an oxide film, the passage of current through them becomes impossible. Because copper oxide is a strong dielectric.

Step 4

The only way out of this situation in order to start the motor is to short-circuit the starter and apply voltage to its windings. To start the engine, the hood of the car rises, and the copper bolts located in the rear cover of the starter retractor relay are bridged with a screwdriver.

Step 5

During the forced start of the starter, the gearbox lever must be in the neutral position, the parking brake is fully tightened, the key in the ignition lock turns to the appropriate position.
