In cases where the tightness of the radiator is broken, and it leaks, it can be repaired using an electric soldering iron with a power of 200 watts. But this is provided that the radiator is made of copper or brass. Aluminum radiators are generally not self-repairing. It is possible to restore a radiator made of aluminum alloy only in a specialized car service.
Necessary
- Soldering iron 200 watt,
- metal brush,
- solder,
- rubber plugs,
- acid.
Instructions
Step 1
To detect antifreeze leaks, the radiator is dismantled from the car and immersed in a bath filled with water, having previously closed all the holes on the radiator with rubber plugs, then it is pumped with air, the pressure of which should not exceed one atmosphere.
Step 2
From damaged areas from which air will escape: it is necessary to mark. This will facilitate further radiator repairs.
Step 3
The radiator is removed from the bath, and the marked places are thoroughly brushed with a metal brush, after which they are treated with acid. Then, with a heated soldering iron, the required amount of solder is applied to the treated areas. After carefully soldering all the leaks found in the radiator with tin, it is considered repaired. As a result, the tightness of the engine cooling system is restored.
