The process of repairing the stove radiator, as well as the engine cooling radiator, is possible under certain conditions. You can repair the radiator yourself if it is copper or brass. If the radiator is aluminum, then the best solution would be to contact a specialist.

Necessary

  • - a soldering iron with a capacity of at least two hundred watts;
  • - tin;
  • - acid;
  • - rubber plugs according to the number of radiator holes;
  • - brush with metal bristles.

Instructions

Step 1

Remove the stove radiator. Close all openings with rubber plugs. Be careful when choosing and installing plugs so that there are no problems with their further removal. Immerse the heater radiator in a bathtub of water and visually look for the leakage point along the bubbles of the outgoing air (similar to looking for a leak in a bicycle tube). Assess the degree of damage to the radiator. If there are several leaks or one large, it makes sense to think about buying a new radiator. Since the reliability of the repaired will be a big question.

Step 2

Remove the radiator from the bath and wipe it dry with a cloth. Use chalk or cloves to mark the places where air comes out. Be careful not to use excessive force when marking with a nail. Run through the future soldering points with pliers, if possible. This will improve the future tightness and increase the reliability of the connection.

Step 3

Clean the marked areas of future soldering with a prepared brush. You can also use sandpaper or a drill with a special attachment to clean surfaces. Be careful when using it so as not to damage small parts on the radiator. Acid scrubbed surfaces to degrease and improve solder performance.

Step 4

Solder the marked and degreased areas with a preheated soldering iron. Do not regret the solder, but do not overdo it with its amount. Excessive solder can crack and fall off. Also, as an alternative to brazing, you can use the so-called "cold welding". When used correctly, good results can be achieved.

Step 5

Submerge the stove radiator in the bath again to detect poor-quality soldering. Dry the radiator thoroughly and acid again before re-soldering. After that, the stove repair can be considered complete.
