Step 1

Use special materials to insulate the compartment, but if they are not available, you can make such insulation yourself. Buy approximately 2 m² of polypropylene foam covered on one side with a foil that will reflect heat radiation. This material is sold in almost any hardware store. To make the simplest insulation - cover the engine with a piece of polypropylene foam and simply cut off the excess so that the material does not protrude from under the hood. This will help insulate the engine compartment with sufficient quality.

Step 2

To make the insulation more technological, take a few pieces of thick paper and use scissors to shape those areas of the inner surface of the hood where the insulation is supposed to be glued (these are the areas where the ribs of the hood do not pass). Cut out a layer of heat-resistant insulation and polypropylene foam according to the templates. Using a special glue, first glue the insulation, carefully rolling it, and then a layer of polypropylene foil to the engine. If you do not roll it in, it will simply fall off after a short time.

Step 3

There is another option for insulating the engine compartment. Take a piece of fire tarp large enough to cover part of the engine compartment from the radiator to the gearbox. Secure a piece of tarpaulin to the top of the radiator with cable ties. Pull it down so that the remainder hangs under the car. Wrap fiberglass over exhaust components that may touch the tarpaulin to completely prevent burnout. Stretch the tarp under the cover, pulling it down so that it does not sag. Fasten the tarp securely at the bottom where the engine compartment ends.

When operating the car in particularly harsh conditions (at temperatures below -20 ° C), both of these methods can be used to insulate the engine compartment. Engine load will drop dramatically and fuel consumption will be significantly reduced.
