Owners of classic car models often face problems such as freezing, malfunctioning or failure of the bonnet release mechanism. In such cases, you can open the hood on the classic in the following ways.
Necessary
- - wire;
- - pliers.
Instructions
Step 1
Take copper or steel wire 1 millimeter in diameter and about 40 centimeters long. Bend the ends of the wire so that you have a hook on one side and a loop on the other. Raise the corner of the hood from the driver's side.
Step 2
Hook the wire into the mechanism cable. Release the hood, pull the wire towards the left fender. At the same time, press down on the bonnet where the opening mechanism is located. This is necessary to loosen the lock. After such manipulations, the hood should open.
Step 3
Try opening the hood from the passenger compartment using small round nose pliers if you don't have a suitable wire on hand. With their help, pull firmly (but without jerking) the cable in the hood opening handle.
Step 4
If the hood does not open due to a break in the traction, first determine visually where the break occurred (at the lock, at the opening handle in the car or somewhere in the middle). If the rod is torn at the lock, lift the hood on one side and slip a small object under it. For these purposes, for example, a wooden block is suitable.
Step 5
Place the hook of the wire over the place of the lock where the pull rod is attached. Pull on the wire and the hood will open.
Step 6
If the rod of the mechanism breaks somewhere in the middle, hook the wire with a hook on the piece of the “shirt” of the rod that goes to the lock, and pull it towards you so that you can reach it with your hand. Then grab the pull with pliers and pull again.
Step 7
Grab the pull rod from the passenger compartment with pliers if it breaks off at the opening handle. To open the hood, pull the pliers towards you and at the same time push up the handle in the passenger compartment. With a little effort, the hood of the classic will open.
