If the door trim of your car is frayed or frayed, you can try to re-fit the doors and interior. Such work is quite within the power of even a novice car enthusiast, but it's good if you have the opportunity to practice on a not very expensive car.

Necessary

  • - cladding material;
  • - glue;
  • - video clip;
  • - brush or roller;
  • - sandpaper;
  • - gasoline or acetone;
  • - plywood;
  • - foam rubber;
  • - self-tapping screws.

Instructions

Step 1

Find a good cladding material. It is best to use a special car leatherette, it stretches very well and is quite wear-resistant. If it seems too expensive for you, buy a regular leatherette or other material, the main requirement is good stretch ability both along the common thread and along the weft.

Step 2

Use a professional thermoplastic shoe glue, two-component glue. It must be diluted with acetone, it has an unpleasant odor, dries quickly and provides good adhesion. As a last resort, take the usual Moment glue.

Step 3

Start with the plastic parts as they are easier to work with and you can practice. Sand the plastic with sandpaper, paying particular attention to the inner corners, valleys and folds of the fabric. Degrease with petrol or acetone.

Step 4

Pay attention to the shape of the details. If they are too convex, the material will be difficult to stretch to the required size, so it is better to cut it and sew it on a sewing machine so that the parts are slightly smaller than necessary (stretch).

Step 5

Apply the glue to the material and the plastic in three layers. Wait at least 30 minutes for the previous layer to dry each time. After applying the third layer, also wait half an hour and apply the material to the fabric, trying to get it right right away.

Step 6

Heat the material in small areas (no more than 10x10 cm) with a hair dryer and smooth with a roller or hand. At the same time, the glue will melt and reliably glue the material and plastic. Pull the corners so that there are no folds.

Step 7

Next, proceed with the door fitting. It is better to peel off the old surface, but you can also stick it directly on it (in this case, the glue consumption is 2-3 times more, since it is necessary to completely saturate the fabric).

Step 8

Start at the center of the door and gradually work towards the edges. Unlike plastic parts, fabric-covered cards should be stretched as tightly as possible.

Step 9

If it is impossible to pull the material on the car door neatly without cuts, make soft foam pillows. To do this, cut out a part of the required size from plywood, put foam rubber and cover it with the same material on top. Secure the pillows to the door with self-tapping screws.
