The ignition coil is a step-up transformer. It changes the low voltage of the vehicle's electrical network to high voltage. Signs of a faulty ignition coil are usually not all spark plugs in working order. Ringing the ignition coil is very easy. You only need an ohmmeter or multimeter.

Coil removal wrench, ohmmeter or multimeter

Instructions

Step 1

Open the hood and find the location of the ignition coil. Disconnect the high-voltage wire from it. He usually goes to the center contact. Disconnect the plus (+) and minus (-) wires from the coil. Remove the coil from the car body.

Step 2

Next, check the resistance of the secondary winding. To do this, connect an ohmmeter to the negative (-) and high-voltage terminals. The resistance between them should be within 4.5 kOhm - 6.5 kOhm.

Step 3

The next step is to check the coil for insulation or ground. Connect one contact of the ohmmeter to the body of the ignition coil, and the second one in turn to each of the contacts: plus, minus and high voltage. The resistance between each of the contacts and the coil body must be at least 50 mΩ.
